Torture Test - Glock / Holosun 407C / SKIMMER Trigger System
Posted by Adam Hjermenrud on Jan 13th 2025
Hey, guys! It’s a cold and icy day here in Kentucky. It’s currently warmer in Alaska than it is here, so we figured, what better day to do a torture test? We’re going to take this gun, put it in the snow, and leave it for about 8 to 10 hours. Then, we’ll come back and see how it performs.
The gun we’re using today is a Gen 5 Glock 19. Mounted on top is a Holosun 407C, and installed inside is a Skimmer Enhanced Carry Trigger System made with 100% OEM parts for reliability, which we’re going to test today.
First, we’ll take a couple of shots to get the gun warmed up and make sure it works properly before we get started. All right, we’ll just leave the action open so the snow can get inside. Here goes nothing! Oh, and let’s not forget a magazine as well.
All right, I’ll set up the time-lapse, and we’ll just let this chill for a bit.
Boy, how time flies! This has been here for about 7 hours. I’d planned on 8 to 10 hours, but I overestimated the amount of daylight we get this time of year. I wanted to finish this video before it got dark, so here we are. The gun is completely covered in snow—let’s see what we’ve got.
My prediction? Since I’ve trained and hunted in this type of weather before, I don’t think there will be any problem with the gun. The trigger, being factory parts, should have the same reliability as the stock handgun. My one concern is the optic. It’s so cold out here that it keeps killing my camera batteries, so I’m not sure how the battery in the optic will hold up. Additionally, I think there might be ice down in the emitter. Once we shoot this, we’ll see how much of that clears out. Let me grab a magazine, load it up, and give it a try.
Well, it needs a little help to go into battery. Actually, it’s not going into battery at all. Let’s see if we can clear some of the snow out of here and give it another try.
Let’s try locking the slide open... There it goes—it went into battery that time. Let me put some hearing protection on, and we’ll give it a shot.
It seems to function! Surprisingly, the recoil from the gun cleared all of the ice inside the optic, so I can actually see quite well. It even locked back on the last round! I’d say that’s pretty good for being out in the snow all day.
All right, guys, it looks like we have a result. If the action is open and you get ice inside, you’ll have a tough time getting it into battery. Otherwise, once the action is closed, everything seems to work fine. The batteries in the Holosun, which I was concerned about, held up completely fine—I could see the dot clearly. After the first shot, all the ice and snow cleared off the emitter and the lens, making it easy to use.
